Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 16, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what the MazWiz Hangout Map (the "Reddit App") stores, who can see it, and how you can delete it. The Reddit App runs on Reddit's Devvit platform, inside the subreddits whose moderators installed it. By using it, you also remain subject to Reddit's own Privacy Policy. We are committed to GDPR compliance and to collecting as little as possible.
1What You Choose to Share
Your map profile only exists once you add yourself to the map. Before that, the Reddit App only keeps small records tied to your username, such as the tips you have already seen, people you blocked and usage limits. When you add yourself, it stores the following, tied to your Reddit username:
- Your place: the country (and state or region) and the city you pick from a list, or only your country if you choose "Only show my country". Your pin on the map is placed at the city, never at an address.
- An optional area code: a 6-character code for an area of about 1 km radius, which you can get with "Use my location" in the app or on mazwiz.com/geo. It is only used to work out distances in the Nearby list, which other members see rounded to the kilometer (visitors without a profile never see distances). The code itself is never shown to anyone. The point you are measured from (a new area code, or a new city when you have no code) can change at most 5 times a day, and removing the code is always allowed, so nobody can try many places to work out where others are. Both turn your phone's position into the code on your device: the exact position is never sent to us or stored.
- Optional profile details: a short tag (for example age and gender), your personality type, a fan club, whether you are visiting, up to 10 favourite subreddits, a link to your intro post on Reddit, and your display choices. If you choose not to show your personality type or your tag, it is removed from your profile when you save.
- From your Reddit profile: your avatar and your Reddit bio, copied so they show on your card.
The Reddit App does not track your location, does not read your messages, and does not scan your Reddit history. It only looks at your few most recent posts to find an intro post in a public subreddit linked to the map, and at the newest posts of the subreddits linked to the map: there, an intro post of yours is linked to your card, and a hangout post of yours (with the community's hangout flair or a !date) is added to the map at your city. A subreddit linked to the map that stops being public is no longer read; its hangouts already on the map stay until they end.
2What the Reddit App Stores While You Use It
- Activity: when you were last active (shown to others only rounded: within the hour, hours, days, or "over a month ago") and whether you are online right now (kept for 5 minutes).
- Hangouts you host: the Reddit post you link in the app, or your hangout post in a subreddit linked to the map (added on its own), with the time and your city. A hangout is removed a day after it ends, or when its post is removed.
- Pixel Pub: the song you share (kept for 30 days), whether you are in the game lobby, pending game invites (15 seconds) and the last 50 players you played with.
- Blocks: the people you blocked.
- App language: if you choose a language for the map in Me → Language (English, French, Spanish or Portuguese), that choice. It is used only to show the map in that language and is kept until one year after you last open the map, or until you choose "Community language" again.
- Limits: short-lived counters that prevent spam (for example how many times you changed your place or area code, kept for a day, even if you delete your profile).
"I'm going": when you confirm, the Reddit App posts a comment on the hangout's Reddit post from your own account. The Reddit App keeps no list of who is going: the count is read from the post's comments (and remembered for up to 5 minutes). You can delete the comment on Reddit at any time.
3Who Can See What
- People who open the map (including visitors without a profile) can see your username, avatar, bio, city (or only your country), your tag and personality type if you show them and the community allows them, your fan club, a "visiting" badge if you are visiting, a "precise area" badge if you added an area code (never the code), your favourite subreddits, your intro post, your current song and a rounded "last active". Members also see a rounded distance in the Nearby list.
- If you are in a fan club and choose to be seen by your club only, you are only listed to that club's members (and the community's moderators): not in the other people lists, the Pixel Pub lobby or the jukebox.
- Hangouts (in the app and on the community's map post) are only shown to people logged in to Reddit. Visitors who are not logged in can look at the map and the people on it, but cannot message anyone through the app or open their own page.
- There is no search by username: people are only listed by place.
- Blocking works both ways: you and the person you block no longer see each other in the people lists, hangouts, Pixel Pub lobby and jukebox. They are not told. Moderators still see members who blocked them, so that blocking never hides anyone from moderation.
- Moderators of the community hosting the map can remove a member from the map. On a community's own map (Independent Sandbox), users banned from that subreddit are hidden while banned. Removed or banned members do not see the Nearby list or hangouts on that map.
- When a community installs the Reddit App or moves its map to the Global Network, the app's developer receives a Reddit private message with the community's name, its settings and the username of the moderator who did it, to connect the community to the map.
4Where the Data Is Stored
Everything is stored in Reddit's Devvit infrastructure (Redis), separately for each community's installation. Communities on the Global Network use the shared map hosted on r/mazwiz.
5Services Outside Reddit
- The Magic Book (in Me) opens our free book, The Journey Within, on mazwiz.com. If your profile has a personality type, it is part of the link (for example
?type=INFP) so the book opens at your chapter; nothing else is sent, and the website keeps your type only in your own browser. Visits to mazwiz.com are counted without cookies, as its privacy policy explains. - YouTube Data API looks up the title and channel of a song you share (only the video's ID is sent).
- Discord: when a community's moderators turn on the Discord integration, the title of a hangout's Reddit post is used to create a thread for it on Discord.
- Pixel Pub games are played on a separate page (games.mazwiz.com). When you start a game, your Reddit username, the game, a room code and your language are passed to that page so both players can join.
- Photos and videos of Reddit posts: when you open an intro post or a hangout in the app, its photos and video are loaded straight from Reddit's media servers, as on Reddit (NSFW and spoiler media stay blurred until you tap). The Reddit App stores nothing about them.
- Links that open outside the app (Reddit, maps, YouTube, Discord, the home-screen shortcut page on mazwiz.com) are governed by those sites' own policies.
6Deletion and Retention
- "Delete my profile" (in the app, Me) permanently deletes your profile, your place and area code, your hangouts, your shared song, your Pixel Pub data, your activity, your app language and the blocks you made. Blocks other people made against you stay theirs.
- If a moderator removes you from a community's map, your profile is deleted the same way, except the blocks you made and your app language, which are kept so they still apply if you are restored. A note that you were removed (with the moderator's name and the date) is kept so that you cannot add yourself again until a moderator restores you.
- If Reddit no longer finds your account (deleted or suspended), your pin is hidden after 3 days and your profile is deleted after 90 days. If your account comes back, your pin shows again.
- Profiles are otherwise kept while you use the map, so that people nearby can still find you.
7Age
The Reddit App is for adults. Ages under 18 cannot be added to a tag and are never shown, and an intro post whose title gives an age under 18 is never linked to a profile. Reddit bios are not checked.
8Your GDPR Rights
As an EU resident (and by extension to all our users globally), you have the right to access, rectify, or erase your personal data. You can edit your profile and delete it yourself at any time in the app. For anything else, contact us and we will help.
9Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy when the Reddit App changes. The effective date above shows the latest version.
