Beebe's eight archetypes
The Demon and the Daimon
Seat 8, in the shadow
Also called the Demonic or Daimonic Personality
The shadow of the Anima or Animus, seat 4
The Demon or Daimon is your fourth function facing the other way: the darkest place in the type, and the source of its deepest renewal.
The role
The eighth function is the furthest from consciousness. Beebe called it the Demonic Personality: the most undermining force in us, which can destroy, sabotage and betray, often when everything is already falling apart.
He also saw its other face, the Daimonic. In ancient Greek a daimon is a guiding spirit. Met and accepted, the same force becomes creative and transforming, a kind of grace.

The light it shadows
It is the shadow of the Anima or Animus, seat 4: your deepest longing, turned into your deepest fear.
BeebeGrowing with it
It is not fought, it is met. Rarely, and usually after a crisis, the Demon turns into the Daimon: what destroyed becomes what renews.
BeebeIn the hero's journey
The ordeal in the belly of the whale, and then the ultimate boon: the Demon, faced, becomes the Daimon.
