The eight functions
Si: Introverted Sensing
"What has worked before?"
Si remembers what worked, and keeps life steady, familiar and well cared for.
What it does
Introverted Sensing compares what is happening now with what it has lived before. Each experience leaves a detailed impression, with the feelings and body sensations that came with it, and these impressions become a trusted inner library. Jung described it as perceiving less the object itself than the impression it leaves on the person.
It is the function of routine, reliability and care for the body. It does not resist change for its own sake: it wants proof that the new way works as well as the old one.

At its best
- Dependable, loyal and careful.
- Keeps people safe and traditions alive.
- Learns from experience and does not repeat mistakes.
When it goes too far
- Rigid: the old way is the only way.
- Stuck in the past, or in old hurts.
- Worry about health, details and small risks.
The Si and Ne axis
Si's opposite is Ne. Si keeps what has worked; Ne imagines what has never been tried. A strong Si grows by trying one new thing at a time; a strong Ne by building on what it has already learned.

In the light: the ego
Familiar comforts are your playground. Nostalgia, rituals and cozy favorites recharge you.
The body and the past are your soft spot. Under stress you can get fixated on health, routines or old mistakes.
In the shadow
Opposing PersonalityESFP ESTPYou
Tradition and "how we always did it" can make you dig in. When pushed, you hold on to your own habits, or bring up old grievances. Made conscious, it lets you learn from what has already happened.
When you feel attacked, you quote the past like a judge: old mistakes, broken promises, rules that were not followed. Accepted, it becomes the wisdom of someone who remembers what really lasts.
Your deepest fear here is being stuck in the past: old wounds, failures and losses that keep coming back. When everything falls apart, they flood in and crush you. Met and accepted, it gives you roots and peace with your own story.
