The eight functions
Ni: Introverted Intuition
"What will be?"
Ni looks beneath events for the one pattern that explains them, and quietly knows where things are heading.
What it does
Introverted Intuition takes in information from the inside. It does not collect facts one by one: it lets impressions settle, and then a single picture rises up, often all at once and with a strong sense of certainty. Jung described it as perceiving the images that come up from the unconscious.
Where Ne opens many doors, Ni narrows everything down to one path: the meaning under the surface, and where it leads. People who lean on it often cannot say how they know something. They just know, and they are often right about the long run, even when the details are hazy.

At its best, and when it goes too far
At its best
- A clear vision that gives a life its direction.
- Foresight: warning early, seeing consequences.
- Calm depth, and a sense of meaning in events.
When it goes too far
- Tunnel vision: only one future is possible.
- Certainty without evidence, and a hard time explaining it.
- Living in the head, cut off from the body and the present.
The Ni and Se axis
Ni's opposite is Se. Ni sees the one future; Se sees what is here, now. A type that leads with one has the other as its weak spot. Growth for a strong Ni often means coming back to the senses and to the moment; for a strong Se, trusting a quieter, longer view.

In the light: the ego
Insight is your playground. Hunches, symbols and "I knew it" moments delight you, though you trust them less when the stakes are high.
The future is your soft spot. Under stress you can sink into dark predictions and read bad omens into everything.
In the shadow
Opposing PersonalityENFP ENTPYou
Other people's predictions make you suspicious. When pushed, you insist things could turn out any number of ways, or you fix on a gloomy forecast nobody can talk you out of. Made conscious, it lets you check your options against where they lead.
When you feel cornered, you can turn cold about the future: you dismiss other people's visions as fantasy, or pronounce a harsh verdict on where their life is going. Accepted, it becomes a quiet wisdom about time and consequences.
Your deepest fear here is that the future holds nothing good, or that you are trapped by fate. When everything falls apart, it shows up as dark certainty and self sabotage. Met and accepted, it becomes a rare sense of meaning that carries you through.
