Beebe's eight archetypes
The Hero
The Hero is the function you lead with: your most natural strength, and the way you meet every problem first.
The role
In Beebe's model the first function carries the archetype of the hero: the part of us that wants to rise to the challenge, prove itself and win. It is where we feel most capable, and it shapes what we call "me".
Jung called it the superior or dominant function. In Grant's view it is the first to develop, in childhood, and it stays the one we trust most.

The trap
- Using the same tool for every problem.
- Pride, and contempt for those who lack your strength.
- Feeling lost when your strength is not enough.
Its shadow
The Hero's shadow is the Opposing Personality, seat 5: the same function, facing the other way. When the Hero feels threatened, that is the character that steps in to defend it.
BeebeGrowing with it
Use it fully, but not alone. The Hero matures when it accepts the help of the Parent, and when it stops covering up its opposite, the Anima or Animus.
BeebeIn the hero's journey
The Hero is the one who sets out. The ordinary world at the start of the story is the world of your first function, until life asks for something it cannot give.
