Beebe's eight archetypes
The Parent
Seat 2, in the light
Also called the Good Father or Good Mother, or the auxiliary function
Its shadow: the Senex or Witch, seat 6
The Parent is your second function: the one you use to take care of others and yourself, and the support of your Hero.
The role
Beebe saw in the second function the archetype of the good father or the good mother: the part of us that protects, teaches and takes responsibility. It supports the Hero by facing the other way: if the Hero turns inward, the Parent turns to the world, and the reverse.
Using it is how a person grows up. It is often the function others meet first when they ask us for help.

Its shadow
The Parent's shadow is the Senex or Witch, seat 6: the same function facing the other way, and the same urge to guide, turned cold and critical.
BeebeGrowing with it
The way out of the Hero and Child loop goes through the Parent: when you feel stuck in comfort and going in circles, take responsibility for something or someone, and use your second function to do it.

The mentor: the wise guide who prepares the Hero to leave the familiar world, and gives it what it will need on the road.
